Three thousand years ago, Agora was brought to the brink of annihilation by the Third Great War. Since then, all has remained peaceful – until now. Challenges present themselves daily and the right response is paramount to survival. Marcus awakens in a world he does not know. Possessing the skills of a seasoned warrior, with the ability to unleash devastating magic, he ventures into the unknown to discover himself, the world and answers to the mysteries surrounding him. Who are these Guardians guiding him on this life’s mission? What do the Gods want? The elf king, Kenric, rose from the rank of commoner at great personal expense; sacrificing everything he truly loves, including his wife and only son. He loyally serves his nation and people, believing his decisions will return them to a level of greatness that was lost long ago. The elf queen, Celeste, his second wife, wishes to serve her goddess, but secretly longs for the throne and the power it holds. Thorel is a dwarf adventurer forced into the public eye, driven by his convictions to do what he believes is right, all the while hiding from himself and the true greatness that lies deep within his soul. He and his fellow adventurers possess a unique view of the world, plying their skills for a price. After all, a paladin has to eat. Thorel discovers Marcus near death, the victim of a savage kobold attack, and is stunned to see the man being protected by two of the most vile and dangerous beasts of the tundra. Shortly after, the natural order of the world pivots at a remote village in a frozen wasteland. It is here that one man stands for what is right, instead of accepting the status-quo – and the world is forever changed. The undead walk the lands, but why, and how did this come to be? Have the necromancers learned how to control their minions? The God of Death has indeed grown in power since the Third Great War. Have his worshipers followed suit? As the world prepares for Armageddon, countries return to their old ways and beliefs’, vying to protect what is theirs and what they know to be true. Each nation only thinks about itself, causing isolation and division throughout the lands. No matter the race, no matter the person, there is good and evil in all of us. Is it possible for the few to stand against the many? Has magic become too powerful to control? Do the Gods control our destiny, or do we? What will come of a single person, a single act, defying the laws of the land and the Gods themselves? The journey has been set in motion, leading towards a collision course with the greatest battle this world has ever known. Welcome to Agora.

I only read fourteen chapters, with a bit of chapter 15, and couldn't read anymore. It's not because it was a bad story but that it was not in a style I enjoy. It almost felt like a game story, without the game, perhaps more of a Dungeon and Dragons style - there's plenty of D&D fan fiction, which is comparable but this story has a lot more depth. If you are into this style of narration then read the positive reviews and go with that. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, if you enjoy the style. (Telling, not showing).I did enjoy the start of the story, but as I read on found some action scenes were delayed with narration - the type of narration you would find with a D&D Master. Also character description broke up the action, again, similar to what you might find with D&D.
I loved the cover of the book.
Just as a point, some reviews are saying it is science fiction, or a mix of scifi and fantasy, it really is a fantasy adventure novel.
I can tell a lot of work has gone into this novel, and it is a good novel right on the cusp of reaching a broader audience and moving to the next level.
Having said that -- is it worth the money? Yes. And I don't regret paying. I might try reading it down the track when I'm in the mood for this style of writing.

Battle For Honor Gates R J Brousseau 9781492160083 Books Reviews
I am a sucker for good science fiction, so when this book was suggested to me by a friend, I thought I would give it a try. I hate to say it, but...... my friend was right, this book was really good.
You have your somewhat boilerplate cast of characters Marcus, the great warrior with amnesia, who is trying to figure out who he is, and where he fits in this world; Kenric, the elf king who won't let anything get in the way of his rise to power; Thorel, the dwarf that always has the right thing at heart. All of the characters are really well fleshed out throughout, and you are shown how not even the best of heroes are completely void of evil.
This book has two or three big ideas that would be enough to write an entire book about, but these writers manage to balance out everything really well. Nothing really seems overly long, and nothing really seems edited down and cut short.
If you are a fantasy or sci-fi fan, I would highly recommend picking up this book.
I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend, who knows I play World of Warcraft and read a good amount of fantasy/sci-fi. She told me I would like it, and boy, did I ever! The father-son team of Rich and Ryan has done a fantastic job of creating an interesting story, and having many characters all remain well-developed throughout the book. Rich and Ryan's work blends seamlessly, creating an excellent tale. The only problem is that I am somewhat of a speed reader, and I now need a sequel. Keep writing you two! This does NOT feel like a work from first-time authors.
I just finished reading Battle for Honor Gates and I was shocked. I started to read it and couldn't put it down. Most books in this genre dont have that particular effect on me. I ordered it for my at the recommendation of a friend and read over almost non-stop over this weekend. I wont reveal the ending but it was not what I expected, which is always a great surprise. This book is not predictable, which is also good. The characters were very descriptive and you actually were concerned about them and rooting for certain ones throughout the story. At over 300 pages Battle for Honor Gates is a great read. I have no idea if there is a sequel in the works but that would be great if there was because I thionk the storyline can be continued. Please keep the main characters if you do.
If you like reading Sci-fi, read this book!
Battle for Honor Gates is a pure fun ride through a fantasy setting. It felt less like I was reading a book and more that a Dungeon Master was describing the stage for an epic D&D adventure. The story is woven though many point of views of different races and different lands. In the end it all comes together for an epic battle. I was left satisfied, yet wanting more.
The story is self contained, but also sets up possible sequels in the future so we can learn more about our characters and the lore of the lands. I can't wait!
Strong characters, a new twist on traditional fantasy themes, and an unpredictable story make Battle for Honor Gates, a must read for all fantasy fans. The Brosseau writing team crafts a story that grabs your attention on the first page and doesn't let go as it takes you into the struggles of men, elves, and gods, and leaves you breathless and wanting more. I highly recommend Battle for Honor gates to everyone.
PROS
Imagery was well planned, and detailed. Quite a bit of thought was given to describing the environment. It really put me into the world.
The story was very engaging. Traditional fantasy aspects with some nontraditional twists.
CONS
Character development was a bit thin. At times, the story felt like it skipped around a bit. That made trying to estimate timelines difficult.
Overall, this was a really good book. It reminded me of playing an RPG. I highly recommend this book.
This book is one of the best father/son books that I have read in a long time. This story is full of action. This book is about the battle between good and evil and how everyone has some of both within them. It is about trying to figure out how to choose between the two.
This story has everything from heroes to dwarfs. I loved the book because it covered a lot of Sci-fi and the authors really make it work. I would really love my friends to sit down and read it too because once you pick it up you won't be able to put it back down.
